The 4th Annual Cooper-Young/Peabody Elementary Chili Cook-Off is set for Saturday, March 5th from 12-2 p.m in the Peabody Cafeteria! Bring your best pot of chili and enter the contest, or just come, taste and judge for yourself. Proceeds go toward continued beautification of the grounds around Peabody Elementary. Our little contest has grown every year, and we expect to attract some fine chili from all across Midtown. Mark you calendars and polish up your best chili pot!
Bragging rights are on the line! Our panel of expert bean tasters and attendees will award prizes in the following categories: Most Unusual Chili, Best Vegetarian Chili, Best HOT Chili, Judges’ Choice, People’s Choice and Best Peabody Alumni Chili.
How to Enter Your Chili:
Come up with a clever name for your team and follow the included link to the online Registration Form. Cost is $20 per team and registration is limited to the first 25 entries. Chili will be judged on Taste, Consistency, and Aroma. The People’s Choice prize will be awarded to the entry that collects the most donations from tasters. You may use gimmicks, costumes, decorations and even cute babies to draw attention to your chili! More details will be given at and following registration. Don’t forget our new Peabody Alumni category. If you or someone you know attended Peabody, issue the chili challenge, and we’ll see who learned the most . . . about chili cooking!
How to Taste the Chili:
Tickets for tasters (that means everyone in attendance!) will be available at the door for $5 (Contestants receive one tasting ticket as part of their registration fee.) Each ticket is good for 5 generous samples from the teams of your choice and 1 drink.
How to Volunteer:
We need about fifteen (15) volunteers for this event. five (5) to help set-up (10:30 a.m.-12 p.m.), five (5) to help clean-up (2 p.m.-3 p.m.), and five (5) to assist the cooks and judges during the competition (12 p.m.-2 p.m.).
