August 2011 LampLighter

August usually brings the dog days of summer, but with the heat we have had this year it can’t bite much more than it already has. CYCA president June Hurt helps us keep our sense of humor about the heat in her letter from the president. Runners are building up their heat tolerance as they train throughout Cooper-Young in preparation for the Festival Friday 4 Miler. The cover article of the August LampLighter gives a great look at the plans for the 20th running of the event and how to register. Inside this issue you can read about how neighbors are planning for parties along the 4 Miler race route for the Neighbors Light the Way contest and that Nick Canterucci is this year’s Festival poster artist.  Meanwhile Matt Martin from Black Lodge Video gives us five heat-wave movies for a scorching hot summer. Find quick info about what is going on in our news briefs section, see who is in the Society section and stay cool while you read the LampLighter.

Click on the cover issue to download a pdf of the paper or go read it online at lamplighter.cooperyoung.org. If you are lucky and live in
Cooper-Young, volunteers will be delivering the paper to your doorstep soon.
