Meet the Candidates for Our 2016 Election

Mark Morrison Mark MorrisonBorn and raised in Memphis, I moved to Knoxville to attend the University of Tennessee, where I earned a PhD in Materials Science and Engineering. After living in Knoxville for 10 years and brief stints living and working in Ireland and Japan, my wife, Leslie, and I moved to Cooper-Young when I took a job at Smith & Nephew in 2005. Since moving to Cooper-Young, I have volunteered at numerous CYCA events, which led me to join the CYCA Board in 2012. I served as Vice-President from 2013-2014 and became the Treasurer in mid-2014. I also co-founded the Cooper-Young Beerfest in 2010 and have served as the organizing committee chair since 2012. In those six years, this event has raised close to $100,000 for the CYCA.

My husband and I moved back to Cooper Young in January, and I could not be more exited to get involved in the neighborhood again! I graduated from Rhodes College in 2014 with a degree in literature and now live, work, and volunteer in Cooper Young. Recently I’ve become very involved in the effort to save the Greensward. My favorite thing about our neighborhood is the socially and environmentally conscious residents that make CY shine! I have experience in social media, marketing, fundraising, and event planning for nonprofits in Memphis. If elected, I promise to work hard with lots of enthusiasm to help our community be the best it can be!

caroline image Caroline SmartI am a numbers nerd with an obsession for organization & Excel. I put my math & people skills to work with my own company for seven years. My team and I helped over 60 small businesses launch or grow by managing their finances & implementing systems to work smarter not harder. As a QuickBooks expert, I setup the accounting systems, audited them, & worked with CPA firms to finalize year-end tax reporting, including managing payroll. I now serve in the nonprofit realm, which means my inner accountant is itching to serve again!
