Meet the Community Director

With college graduation on the horizon, Kristan knew she wanted a change. She wanted to move to an urban environment abuzz with activity and diversity, but also wanted to live in a community that had a neighborhood association and where neighbors knew one another. Needless to say, Cooper-Young was the perfect fit!

Kristan comes to the CYCA with a background in non-profit work. She is a graduate of the University of North Carolina – Greensboro with dual Bachelor degrees in Business Administration and Sociology.  Before moving to Memphis, Kristan worked as a legal secretary at Legal Aid of North Carolina, focusing on issues such as public benefits, unemployment and Medicaid.  In Memphis, Kristan was proud to be a part of ALSAC/St Jude where she worked in Gift Planning Research.

After the economic decline, Kristan decided it was time to refocus her efforts and energy for community-level change and was offered the role as Advertising Sales Manager with the LampLighter.  She also served on the CYCA Board of Directors where she chaired the Beautification Committee until her recent position as Community Director. As a result of her experience, she is well versed in the ins and outs of the CYCA.

In addition, Kristan is a self-professed geek.  She has a love/hate relationship with technology (loves it when she can Google something, hates it when her computer freezes) and is very knowledgeable in the use of social media, websites and computers.  In her free time, she loves to read, sew, garden and goof around with her dogs. She would love to see Cooper-Young grow, prosper and continue to be a place where neighbors care about neighbors and people want to make their home.  She sincerely wishes to carry on the CYCA mission of making Cooper-Young a better place to live, work and play.
