We are often asked
from neighbors "What does the association do and what do I get out
of it?" What a hard question to answer with just a few words,
because we do so many little things in addition to the tried and true events
that everyone has come to love. For one, you get the
satisfaction of supporting the projects of the Cooper Young
Community Association. We are a volunteer-based community
association that recognizes that each of us has the duty to support
the neighborhood that we love.
Like any other nonprofit, we depend on the financial support of our
members to keep doing all the background activities as well as the
public events that make Cooper Young a more desirable and safer
place to live, worship, work, and play.
Why be a member?
Your
membership helps support the many activities that drive all the
productive things that happen in CY such as alley clean ups,
graffiti cover, informative neighborhood meetings, beautification
events at the gateways of our neighborhood and code enforcement
issues just to name a few.
Arrange
for yearly safety forums or town hall meetings, organize block
captains, keep in contact and forge good relationships with our
local police force to help keep us informed on issues that face our
community.
When
important things happen in or around our neighborhood that would
affect our lives, we collectively try to gather info and find out
what residents want. A perfect example is the Fairgrounds
Redevelopment happening at our back door.
The
Lamplighter, our free neighborhood newspaper, depends on ads sold
and your support to get the information to you 11 times a year
As
a member, you will be added to our email network that allows you to
get reminders of meetings, volunteer opportunities, social
functions, safety alerts and more.
We
have part-time staff that supplies support and helps organize the
committees that help keep our projects on target. These committees
include Safety Committee, Membership Committee, Special Events
Committee, Race Committee, Beautification and Code Enforcement
Committee and Communication Committee.
Our
membership committee has worked hard in the past and will continue
to work to provide tangible benefits such as "Mulch to Members"
where the neighbors get a bobcat scoopful of mulch to take back home
to add to their beds and to mulch the many gardens that border our
neighborhood such as the Gazebo and Spanish Park at Central and
Parkway.
Your
membership enables you to be a voting member of the CYCA and also
