School is out. The temperatures and humidity are high. And we are rapidly approaching the middle of 2016.

All of that means that the annual Cooper-Young Fourth of July Parade must be around the corner. If you have kids — or even if you don’t — and haven’t participated in this annual event, you should make plans to come out and join in the parade on Monday, July 4th.

Cooper-Young’s annual Independence Day celebration kicks off a spate of activities in the coming months. In August it’s National Night Out and its attendant neighborhood block parties. Then in September it’s the Cooper-Young Festival and the Festival Friday 4-Miler, events that — combined with the weather — make it the best month in Cooper-Young in my opinion.

So enjoy your summer vacation, and I will see you at some of these great events in the neighborhood when you return. — Mark Morrison
