As you might have seen already, the Cooper-Young Community Association has a new executive director to replace Kristen Schebler, who left us last month to pursue a new career opportunity. Stephanie Gonzalez is a Cooper-Young homeowner and marketing professional with more than a decade of experience managing websites, growing social media accounts, and communicating with a wide variety of audiences.

After growing up in Collierville, she earned degrees in journalism and Spanish at the University of Memphis and moved to Boston, then Austin, while working in journalism, public relations and marketing for a variety of companies, ranging from startups to national corporations. She and her husband, Carlos, moved back to Memphis in 2015 while she was working remotely as Director of Marketing Communications at TeamSnap, a software company based in Boulder, Colorado. The couple were living in Austin at the time but returned to Memphis to visit family and fell in love with the historic charm, diversity, and walkability of Cooper-Young. Four months later, they were sitting on their own Midtown porch.

Since moving to Cooper-Young, Stephanie has gotten involved with the Cooper-Young Community Association by volunteering for events, which led to writing for and managing advertising sales for The LampLighter, participating in the Garden Walk and, this year, joining the organizing committee for the Cooper-Young Beerfest. Based on her past experience and the initiative she has demonstrated as a part of the Beerfest committee, I am confident that Stephanie will be a great addition to the CYCA. The entire board is excited to have her join us and is looking forward to working with her to make Cooper-Young a better place to live, worship, work, and play. — Mark Morrison
