September is one of the busiest and most exciting months of the year in Cooper-Young, not least of all for the weekend of Sept 14-15 when the Cooper-Young Festival Friday 4-Miler and Cooper-Young Festival take over the neighborhood.
In preparation for the big weekend, the Cooper-Young Community Association is organizing a clean-up event on Sunday, Sept. 9 at 10 a.m. Contact the office for more information or just show up to help us tidy for all the visitors.
On Friday, September 14, the CYCA’s 27th annual Festival Friday 4-Miler will take place with more than 2000 runners making their way through the neighborhood. The race after-party will feature a band, food from local businesses, and beer from our very own Memphis Made Brewing Company. Those who aren’t into running can still enjoy the race by hosting or attending a “Light the Way” party along the race route to help spur on racers. “Light the Way” organizers are encouraged to get creative and have fun with their party themes. Register your party with the CYCA and you could possibly win the competition for best party.
Of course, all this leads up the next day to the 31st annual Cooper-Young Festival produced by the Cooper-Young Business Association (CYBA). Along with bands and hundreds of vendors, over 100,000 people will visit our community to enjoy a day full of fun.
Whether you have lived here for decades or just moved in last month, make sure you enjoy a fantastic month in Cooper-Young and welcome our visitors to show them why Cooper-Young is such a great place to live. — Mark Morrison
