As I write this, St. Patrick’s Day weekend has just concluded. It was a beautiful weekend, and it finally feels like we have turned the corner from winter to spring.

Since it fell on a weekend this year, I was able to enjoy the Cooper-Young St. Patrick’s Day parade for the first time. I was shocked at the size of the crowd and happily surprised by the parade itself.

With the warmer weather, we have more neighborhood events coming up. Two annual events return in the coming weeks: The annual Cooper-Young Yard Sale will be on Saturday, April 27, and the Cooper-Young Garden Club will be hosting the 4th annual Cooper-Young Garden Walk the weekend of May 18-19.

And we have a new, family-friendly event. Starting Thursday, April 4, we start our own version of a weekly bike night. The entire family is invited to meet at the gazebo at 6:30 p.m. every Thursday between April 4 and May 23 for a neighborhood bicycle ride. The riders leave at 6:45 p.m. with a volunteer leading the way through different routes every week. If this pilot program is successful, we plan to extend the rides past the end of May.

I hope to see you at one of these great events this spring in Cooper-Young. — Mark Morrison
