With the annual Cooper-Young Community Association elections this past April, I wanted to update on you the current board leadership and some other recent changes.
First, the recent elections exceeded the minimum threshold for membership participation. As a result, Olivia Wall and Stephanie Gonzalez were elected to two-year terms as secretary and vice president, respectively. I have already enjoyed serving on the board with these two wonderful women and look forward to doing more great things with them.
Second, Mike Larrivee left the board in February due to a full plate outside of the CYCA. Aside from a full-time job that frequently takes him out of town, Mike is also the founder of and heavily involved in The Compost Fairy. The entire board appreciates Mike’s involvement over the years and his energetic enthusiasm in working with the garden club, on sustainability topics, and other important activities in CY.
Third, Caroline Smart has recently announced that she will be leaving the board as well. Caroline has been on the board for years and has served as treasurer for the past three years. From personal experience, I can testify that treasurer is the most difficult, time-consuming position on the board, so we have certainly appreciated her expertise and experience in this particular role. Like Mike, Caroline stays very busy outside of all her duties at the CYCA; she works for ALSAC as her “day job” and frequently spends her nights and weekends managing fundraising events for St. Jude. Caroline is also actively involved with the Junior League and The Compost Fairy among other non-profits. Per the bylaws, the board will be appointing a board member to complete the rest of Caroline’s term, which ends this coming April.
I want to thank Caroline and Mike for all the time that they have given to the CYCA and the Cooper-Young community as well as Olivia and Stephanie for their willingness to give more of their time to the organization. — Mark Morrison
