The Cooper-Young Community Association and the Cooper-Young Garden Club partnered with Volunteer Memphis and Memphis City Beautiful to clean and beautify the Spanish American War Park on September 11, 2018. Part of the National Day of Service and Remembrance, the city-wide project was developed by Volunteer Memphis and Memphis City Beautiful to support and recognize Memphis police officers, firefighters, emergency medical responders, and the military. Volunteers from companies, churches, non-profits, and individuals gathered on this day to beautify four Memphis military parks, the Coast Guard area, and offer meals at community centers throughout Memphis.
Memphis City Beautiful and Volunteer Memphis work all year to beautify our city and bring neighborhoods together. Many thanks to Eldra White, Cyndy Grivich-Tucker, and the staff at Memphis City Beautiful, to David Williams, Andrea Hill, and the staff at Volunteer Memphis, Sharron Johnson, and the Cooper-Young Garden Club for furnishing mulch for the park trees, and the Cooper-Young Community Association for donating t-shirts as a thank you to the volunteers.
Consider volunteering through the CYCA for neighborhood projects and through Volunteer Memphis for city projects. When you give your time and talent, you make Memphis and Cooper-Young a better place to live. — Judi Shellabarger
