It’s a new year, and by the time you read this the Cooper-Young Community Association board will have met for our annual retreat to make plans for the year and set our budget. We are starting the year with our new executive director, Stephanie Gonzalez, and two new board members.

Tiffany Calhoun joined the board in December. Originally from Virginia, Tiffany works at ALSAC/St. Jude, has lived in Memphis since 2010, and bought a home in CY with her husband last year.

Ben Rednour joined the board in January. Ben is originally from Jackson, TN, and he and his wife have lived in CY since 2010. He is a graduate of the University of Memphis and is a freelance video producer and editor.

Based on informal discussions before the retreat, it seems likely that one of our goals this year will be to get more people involved. We will have multiple ways you can become more engaged. We plan to have more of our monthly general meetings that some people said they missed. We have additional vacancies on our board that we would love to fill. Elections for treasurer and president will occur in April should you want to jump right into the deep end. We always have a few vacancies among block captains. You could lead a community clean-up. Or, just volunteer at our events throughout the year.
As you can see, there are many ways to get more involved in CY, meet more of your neighbors and make your community a better place. Please join us this year. — Mark Morrison
