This Thursday, we are hosting a Block Captain Mixer for all of our Cooper-Young neighbors who want to make this neighborhood even better! We know you’re wondering, “Me? Do I have what it takes? Do I have the time? Do I have the skills?” Um, yes. Keep reading to find out more!

1 You’re the first to know about parties and events! We regularly host events at the CYCA and we need help getting the word out. So we go to you first. You get to invite neighbors to parties at your home (which we reimburse) or at the CYCA.

2 You only have to captain one block. Just one! That’s right. You are a big fish in a small pond. You only have to get to know your block. It takes an average of 3-5 minutes to walk a block. So no worries on getting overwhelmed. It’s just the right size.

3 Appreciation mixers just for you. Yep, that’s right. We love to show our volunteers love. And that means we love throwing little shindigs that are specifically for you. Have ideas for a fun get together? Let us know and we would love to oblige. Convinced yet?

4 You get to pretty much be a local superhero. As Block Captain, you wear an invisible cape. Neighbors know you’re the one on the block with info or the one to go to with news. You get the need to know info out to neighbors. You get to welcome new neighbors to our hood. Not to brag but you’re kind of a big deal.

5 You get to volunteer under the illustrious Kenzie Campbell. She loves animals, gardening, reading (she started the Dear Readers Book Club) and her neighborhood. She is passionate about making CY great and she knows that can only be done by working together. Catch her during trivia at the Deli but beware. Her team is pretty good.

Learn more June 20 at our Cooper-Young Block Captain Relaunch! We will have food and beverages and you will get to meet the aforementioned, Kenzie Campbell. If you’re able, bring a side or dessert but it’s not required to attend.
