The Evolve Bank and Trust Cooper Young Festival is pleased to announce that Rahn Marion has been named the official poster artist for 30th Cooper Young Festival.
Marion is a native Memphian and graduated from MICA Maryland Institute College of Art in Baltimore, Maryland. He majored in painting with a concentration in film. Since 2012, while in Maryland, his work has been shown at MICA’s Main Gallery and Lazarus Building as well as other places in Maryland such as Platform Gallery and Gallery CA. Since moving to back to Memphis, he has received five medals in the Mid-South Scholastic Art Awards Ceremony and has been in numerous shows. Marion designed Memphis’ first skate park logo at Tobey Skatepark and is involved with the SkateLifeMemphis organization. He now works at First Congregational Church as a RA and in their Art Ministry Program.
Marion said “Through art ministry, I am able to keep my artistic practice fresh and freely spread my creativity throughout Memphis.”
The Cooper Young Festival will be celebrated on Saturday, September 16 from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. with a rain date of Sunday, September 17. Artist vendor booths go on sale for the 2017 Festival on Thursday, June 15 at 12 am. Booths are sold on a first come, first served basis to artists in the Mid-South and across the country. On the Cooper-Young Business Association’s website, cooperyoungfestival.com, potential vendors can view maps of the festival site and pick out a favorite space.
This year marks the 30th Cooper-Young Festival. The three-day celebration starts on Thursday, September 14, when the community is invited to attend the annual art invitational hosted by CoWork Memphis located at 902 South Cooper. The invitational spotlights more than 30 talented artists that live and work in Cooper Young.
On Friday, September 15, join 2,000 of your closest friends for the Cooper-Young Festival Friday 4-miler race. Registration can be made on-line at www.cooperyoung4miler.racesonline.com.
Finally, on Saturday, September 16, the Cooper Young Festival kicks off with a whole day of free, family-friendly, music, arts and crafts street festival fun. The festival is the city’s largest, single day event held annually in a celebration of life, music, arts and heritage.
