City Council members approved application PD 17-23, City Cottages-Cooper Young, at its Feb. 20 meeting. The project is for ten 1,000-square-foot rental houses at the currently vacant northeast corner of Elzey and Tanglewood.
The approval included conditions that the land not be used for short-term rentals (Airbnbs); that the buildings include a residential roof with architectural shingles, brick or hardy board siding, and brick or stone material in the space between the ground and the bottom floor of the structure; that street-side landscaping be required; and that the development be subject to all engineering requirements (like soil and drainage studies).
If Cooper-Young Landmarks status is approved by City Council before the project’s building permits for the site are applied for, they will go before the Landmarks Commission. We will continue to share information as it becomes available. — Stephanie Gonzalez
