Block captains have long been a core part of the Cooper-Young Community Association’s outreach into the neighborhood. They have served as a connection between neighbors, hosts for parties, volunteers for our events — the list goes on and on. After a brief hiatus, the CYCA is pleased to announce that a new block captain leader has been chosen, Kenzie Campbell, who has served as her block’s captain on Meda for the past couple of years. Kenzie is a highly involved neighbor who knows all the folks on her street and never hesitates to advocate for everyone in the community. She’s graciously offered to become Cooper-Young’s new block captain captain as we relaunch the program to be fun, engaging, and a way for neighbors to meet and build relationships, brainstorm, and strengthen bonds. After all, the wonderful community is probably one of the main reasons we all chose to move to Cooper-Young, right?
In celebration of this program, the CYCA is hosting a Block Captain Kick-Off party on Thursday, June 20, at 6 p.m. at our office at 2298 Young. We’ll share a nice summer dinner for anyone who has previously been serving as block captains, as well as new folks who are interested in meeting their neighbors, participating in annual National Night Out parties, and becoming more active in our community. Please don’t hesitate to join us for this fun evening, even if you’ve never considered serving as a block captain before! Check Facebook or Nextdoor for more details. – Amanda Yarbro-Dill
