Last year, the Cooper-Young Community Association launched its first ever scholarship to encourage students to understand and participate in their local communities. The CYCA Leaders Scholarship is a $1,000 scholarship that is awarded to an uprising junior or senior who has served for one year on the CYCA board and has fulfilled the requirements set forth by the Youth and Family Committee Board. The first recipient was Jackson Danley of Central High School. Over the past year, Danley has proved himself a valuable asset as the youth representative on the CYCA board. He is graduating in the spring with plans to start college in the fall with the help of his CYCA scholarship.

The CYCA is now accepting applications for 2020-2021 scholarship from registered sophomores and juniors at Central and Middle College High School. The scholarship recipient must be able to serve one year on the CYCA board. To read about the qualifications and guidelines, visit cooperyoung.org. The deadline for applications is March 31. The decision will be made by April 30 for the June 2020-May 2021 term. — Sheree Stubblefield
