August 1 is the deadline for the Cooper-Young Community Association’s children’s summer story contest.

Tell a tale of the memorable, the beautiful or the downright unbelievable. All stories must be true and original. The contest is for kids up to 12 years old. Submissions must be between 300-500 words and are due August 1. There will be two categories: ages 5-8 and 9-12. The contest is open to all kids in Cooper-Young. The first-place winner’s story will be printed in the September edition of the Lamplighter. — Sheree Stubblefield
