The CYCA is pleased to once again be staging Phil Kline’s “Unsilent Night” on Friday, December 22! Participants of all ages bring their own boomboxes (bluetooth speakers are fine, too!) and drift peacefully through a cloud of sound which is different from every listener’s perspective. We all press play together, beginning at the Cooper-Young Gazebo, and walk through the Cooper-Young neighborhood creating a cacophony of bells, voices, and reverberant joy. We’ll finish our walk at Cooper House Project, where you can receive a free beer if you’ll bring a canned or other shelf-stable good for our community pantry!
With your help, together we will create this traveling sound installation, where boomboxes replace voices in a holiday caroling event like no other! You bring a boombox, iPod/iPhone/iPad with speakers, or any other media playing device you wish, and a CD or digital download of one of the four parts of the piece will be provided.
Since we’ll be doing this at night, lights of all kinds are encouraged! Light up yourself or your little red wagon and we’ll enjoy a 45 minute stroll around the neighborhood together! A fun, free, and unique way to kick off your Friday night!
Schedule:
5:30-6pm: Gather at the Cooper-Young Gazebo (Corner of Cooper St. & Young Ave.)
6:00pm: Press PLAY and begin the 45-minute walk through the streets of Cooper-Young!
Cost: FREE and open to the public (all ages are welcome)
