If you are going to be in town this 4th of July, you should plan to join your neighbors and the Cooper-Young Community Association at our parade in the parking lot of Peabody Elementary School from 10 a.m.-noon. This annual event is always a great opportunity for the kids to play, for you to chat with your neighbors, and for everyone to celebrate our freedom.

We will have Mempops to help with the heat, a fire truck from the Memphis Fire Department, face painting, and a balloon artist. This year kids can decorate bikes, wagons, or themselves for a chance to win prizes that will be awarded for the most patriotically dressed/decorated.

Suzanne Abedi has worked hard for numerous years to make this a great family event in our community, and Burke’s Book Store has donated prizes for the contest. Please thank Suzanne for her hard work when you see her out in CY or at the parade and thank Burke’s for supporting our community.

Happy 4th of July! — Mark Morrison
