December is upon us, which means that the Cooper-Young Community Association has two great events coming up soon. This year, the annual volunteer appreciation/holiday party will be at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, December 11. This event is held to recognize all of the volunteers that made everything possible this year in addition to providing an opportunity for CYCA members and neighbors to get together and celebrate the holidays. Per annual tradition, we will also be announcing and celebrating the 2018 recipient of the Alexia Hampton Memorial Award for volunteer service.

In my humble opinion, one of the best events organized by the CYCA is the assembly and distribution of snack bags for police and fire personnel who spend their holiday away from their families to protect us on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. If you will be in town, please bring your family and join your neighbors at the CYCA office on Christmas Eve to stuff bags for the first responders. If you have other plans that night, please consider making some home-baked treats that we can put in the bags. We even encourage you to put your name and address on the treats so that the recipients will know where they came from.

More information regarding both of these events will be publicized in the coming weeks.

Happy holidays! — Mark Morrison
