It’s hard to believe, but we are getting close to Christmas and 2020. If you haven’t finished your Christmas shopping early, please consider the Cooper-Young Community Assocaition when making your lists. Looking for a gift or stocking stuffer for a Cooper-Young resident or advocate? We have CYCA mugs, tote bags, historic maps, t-shirts, historic door plaques, and history books. Are you shopping for someone who has everything already? A CYCA membership starts at $20 or spend a little extra to give them a Lamplighter benefactor membership.
On a related note, CY resident and CYCA board member Suzanne Abedi has an article in this issue regarding the newly created CYCA Benevolence Fund. Each board member is contributing to this fund annually to better the lives of individuals or families living in Cooper-Young during a time of hardship or crisis by temporarily assisting them with their basic needs. A donation in someone’s name to the benevolence fund could be a terrific gift that could also make a big difference in a neighbor’s life. Alternatively, do you know someone in Cooper-Young that could use a helping hand this Christmas? Please, let us know.
Finally, in the spirit of giving, don’t forget about our annual event to create bags of treats on Christmas Eve for our first responders that have to work over the holiday. Anyone can participate by providing treats for the bags, stuffing the bags that evening, or both. Watch our various media channels for more details as we get closer to Christmas.
We’ll see you in the new year. Happy Holidays! — Mark Morrison
