The Evolve Bank and Trust Cooper Young Festival is pleased to announce that local Memphian and Cooper-Young resident Mollie Riggs has been named the 2019 Poster Artist.
Mollie Riggs is a native Arkansan who attended Parsons School of Design in New York City before moving to Memphis in 1983. She is a graduate of Memphis College of Art and currently is a self-employed artist with a primary focus in decorative design, which includes faux finishes, murals, and restoration. Her fine art reveals her love of nature and the urban landscape.
Mollie lived in Cooper-Young, renting a home for several years, and knew early on that the Cooper-Young Historic District was the neighborhood she wanted to live in long term. In 1995, Mollie purchased a house already knowing the other artists who lived on Elzey Avenue.
“It immediately felt like home,” she says.
The Cooper Young Festival will be Saturday, September 14 from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. with a rain date of Sunday, September 15. Artist vendor booths go on sale for the 2019 Festival on Saturday, June 15 at 12 a.m. Booths are sold on a first come, first served basis to artists in the Mid-South and across the country to artists that have hand-made art of all mediums. On our website, cooperyoungfestival.com, you can view maps of the festival site and pick out your favorite space for this year’s 32nd event.
