This year’s National Night Out was a success! Over 15 blocks in Cooper-Young participated in the event which strengthens relationships between the community and the local police force. Cooper Young block captains hosted the parties. The parties varied by size and flavor from block to block with different foods, games, and music. Hosts included Adam and Sydney Ashby, Ed Green, Robert Hatfield, and Paige Arnold among many others.
The Memphis police and fire departments were present at several of the parties. Residents had the opportunity to get to know their Crump Station police officers, express their concerns about the neighborhood, and ask questions about safety. Crump Station also provided resources for each host to give out to attendees to inform them about overall safety and security.
Block Captain Committee Chair Liz Royer made the rounds to several parties to meet and greet neighbors with Cooper-Young Community Association community engagement director Sheree Stubblefield. Residents received flyers from CYCA about upcoming events. After the event was over, hosts said that they had a great time and it encouraged people to sign up for memberships. Royer stated that this was the best National Night Out she has seen as chair and she can’t wait for next year.
