National Night out is coming up on August 7, and the Cooper-Young Community Association is looking for CY residents to participate.

A program of the nonprofit National Association of Town Watch, National Night Out is an annual community-building initiative that promotes police-community partnerships and neighbor- hood camaraderie to make our neighborhoods a safer, better place to live. Neighborhoods across the nation host block parties, festivals, parades, cookouts and other various community events with safety demonstrations, seminars, youth events, visits from emergency personnel and exhibits.

Every year people all over Cooper-Young get together to meet new block-members and hang out with old friends as part of the National Night Out. How can you get in on the action? Get in touch with your block captain and find out if they’re hosting a party this year, then all you need to do is attend and have a good time! You can also register your party with Memphis Police Department’s Crump Station to arrange a friendly visit from one of our local MPD officers; it’s always great to meet up and know who helps us out throughout the year.

If you aren’t sure who your block captain is contact lizzyroyer@gmail.com, our CYCA Block Captain chair,. We can also tell you if your block captain has registered a party with us and give you the details. If you would you like to host a party e-mail sheree@cooperyoung.org. We’ll even reimburse you up to $50! Just bring your receipts into our office at 2298 Young after your get-together, and we’ll get you squared away.
