Neighbors on the race route throw a happening party on their front lawn while cheering on runners with signs, beverages and overall revelry.

Every year, 2,500 runners come out to enjoy our fun, hip, historic community for our annual Cooper-Young 4-Miler race through the neighborhood. There’s something that makes our race better than the rest, the Cooper-Young neighbors! Runners repeatedly say how the Light the Way Parties are what keeps them coming back to the race year after year.

So, what is a Light the Way Party? Neighbors on the race route throw a happening party on their front lawn (many times with a theme like “toga party”) while cheering on runners with signs, beverages and overall revelry.

Register to host a Light the Way party by emailing info@cooperyoung.org with your name, address, email, and phone number. Each entry will receive one free race entry, and the first 25 entries will receive two tickets to the Mid-South Fair and a $10 gift card to Otherlands Coffee Bar. Plus, be entered into our annual Light the Way competition for best party! The race is Friday, September 13 at 7 p.m. Fittingly, this year’s theme is “Friday the 13th.” There will be prizes for the top three winners.

Not hosting a party? Don’t forget to sign up to volunteer for the 4-Miler. There are plenty of spots available. Email the CYCA for assistance signing up or go to this link. https://signup.com/go/jSxNePO. — Sheree Stubblefield
